Happy New Year

It has been awhile, right? Our new year has started off very busy. It has been great, though. The girls did not stay up until midnight on New Year's Eve. Gabby was interested because she had learned about the ball dropping, but she has never been able to make it to midnight. This year...they went to bed at a nice normal time. We woke them up 10 minutes before the ball dropped. Gilli never regained consciousness....but after a few minutes Gabby was awake enough to know what was going on in Times Square. She saw the ball drop and walked herself straight back to bed. It was really funny.

Ice Skate Kick Off

We are gearing up for ice skating lessons in about a week. We decided to go skating for fun on New Years Day. Gabby had a great time, and we were really surprised that Gillian remembered everything that she learned last year. However....Dave and I....let's just say - we are not young anymore.

First Braids

Gillian hit a new milestone in a girl's life....braids. It has taken awhile to get there...more than 3 1/2 years....and they were not long and thick...but she sported them.

Alex's birthday

Gabby's friend, Alex, had a birthday party at a local animal shelter. His family is very active in helping basset hounds who don't have homes. They were fostering a dog for quite some time and Alex got a big surprise when his parents arranged for a birthday bash at the shelter for Alex and for his dog that he has been fostering. Alex signed the official adoption papers in front of us all!

Boli's

Dave and Gillian made some meatball boli's for dinner the other night....they got a little silly in the middle. PS- They sure have come a long way with whole wheat pizza dough! Even Dave liked it (that's the true test).

Gilli's Ice Castle

Gilli had a project to work on for homework. The student's were asked to freeze water in different shaped containers. They were asked to bring their containers into school for show and tell. They took all their different shaped ice blocks and created an ice castle. They added polar bears and penguins.

Watching ice freeze.....

A Bit of Everything Blog Entry...

So....I realize that January is just about over...and I have been very neglectful of my blog entries. We just have had something going on everyday and that is called "life". The busy days just make time speed by at an out of hand pace...and before we know it - We have reached the next holiday...etc. Here are a few things that have been going on this month that I thought I would throw into this hodge podge.

Gabby attended the 2nd annual math game night at her school. It was so much fun to see all the families there to play and learn together. The place was packed. I would go back again in a second. The other shot of Gabby is just something goofy that she asked me to post.

Gillian has been wearing these cowgirl boots around a lot lately. Why do kids (boys and girls) love cowboy boots? I had some when I was little...loved them. I can only remember liking them because they seemed big to me compared to other shoes and they had heels. Nothing to do with cowboys. I think these boots go very nicely with Gilli's dance attire. Don't worry...she traded them for her ballet slippers when the time came.

Gabby had another author come to visit her school. His name is Joseph Bruchac. He is from the area and has written many children's books including - How the Chipmunk got His Stripes. Mr. Bruchac talked to the students, told stories and played some of his native American instruments. He was also nice enough to sign students' copies of his books.

The girls are enjoying their ice skating lessons. It is so hard to get a good picture of Gilli while she is in class because she is at the other end of the rink. She is the one in blue with the pink helmet.

500 Books!

Gillian reached 500 books for her 1000 book goal. She is halfway there. She got to go over to Gabby's school to meet up with her future librarian, Mrs. Sogoian! She got a special pin! It was so much fun for one day because she also had pajama day at school. They read "If you give a pig a pancake"..ate pancakes for snack and made a pancake craft.

Full Moon

Introducing the brightest moon of 2010....according to those who know about moons...
We decided to take a picture of this big bright moon after showing the girls after bathtime. It was full and it was bright....but not the brightest thing around....

For instance....
Take a look at this shining star....

We looked around for more shiny things...and found many non shiny things for example:

This dirty fish bowl....not so shiny!

And the award for most non shiny thing at our house....
